IPSTAR Australia PTY Limited (IPA) and IPSTAR New Zealand Ltd (IPNZ) are wholly owned subsidiaries of Shin Satellite Public Company Limited(SSA), Thailand one of Asia’s leading satellite operators.

Serving broadband Internet bandwidth requirements, IPA and IPNZ in partnership with Shin Satellite, has since the year 2000 been developing a new broadband satellite system that will effectively deliver broadband solutions to residential and corporate consumers throughout Australia and New Zealand.

SSA has funded its US technology partner, in the development, design and patenting of IPSTAR's core technologies of the IPSTAR Broadband Satellite System. The IPSTAR concept was created out of the company's vision of enabling satellite technology to play an important role in the broadband Internet/multimedia revolution and the coming convergence of information and communication technologies

It aims to provide a low cost user terminal and bandwidth in order to provide a large scale bandwidth platform of satellite-based broadband that competes more effectively with other terrestrial broadband solution such as ADSL, Cable Modem and Fixed Wireless while, at the same time, retaining the key satellite advantages of large coverage, and fast and flexible service deployment
